Happy Friday babes!
Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays growing up. There’s just something about the positive spirit that christmas brings, that always gets me excited. They do say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of year! However, as I have grown older I’ve realized there is much more to Christmas then spending tons of money on gifts and food.
So this year, I have decided to celebrate the holidays a little different. A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to celebrate but I wanted it to be a more meaningful Christmas. I have realized that Christmas really isn’t about the presents, food, or the lights and decorations. It’s about spending time with the ones you love, creating memories, and serving others. So I have decided to do two things different this year.
First, I am skipping the gifts.
This may sound outrageous, especially for this shopping lover. But the hustle and bustle of finding that perfect gift that is just the right price and is something that your loved one doesn’t already have is just plain STRESSFUL. Instead of buying gifts this year, my family and I have decided to “do something together”. Over the years, I have found the values in making memories and experiences. So this year instead of buying presents for each other, Colton (for those you who do not know, Colton is my boyfriend of seven years), myself, my best friend Sami, and her boyfriend Dawson are going to the happiest place in the world… Disney World!!! I am so excited to spend time together and make a ton of memories that we can share for a lifetime.
I even got my brother and mom on board with the idea!! We, as a family, are attending a play and treating ourselves to a nice dinner. I am so excited to spend time with loved ones this christmas without the stress of buying the “perfect” gift.
Secondly, I am going to spend time volunteering.
With the crazy stress of the holidays, wrapping presents, cooking meals, buying gifts, looking at lights, baking, it’s easy to get distracted and forget those in need. I plan to change my focus this year as there are tons of charities that need volunteers during this busy season.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas and LOVE buying gifts for people. However, I just feel that this season of life I am currently in, it needs to be celebrated differently. Leave a comment and let me know what is your favorite non-traditional way to celebrate the holidays is, I would love to hear!
